Usually only in a very limited way, if at all. A boat policy covers the hull, your liability on the water, theft, and the trailer ride. Those are things a home policy was never built for.
Often not by the state, but marinas, lenders, and some waterways require it. If someone asked you for proof of coverage, this is the policy they mean.
Partly. Your auto liability usually extends to the trailer while you tow, but damage to the boat and the trailer needs boat and trailer coverage. Tell us how you haul it and we will make sure there is no gap between the two.
Keep it. Theft and storage losses do not take the winter off, and many insurance companies offer lower-cost coverage for the months the boat is stored.

Match the policy to the boat. Choose a deductible you could pay after a claim. An older boat may not need the same hull coverage as a new one.
