THE THINGS PEOPLE ACTUALLY ASK US

A form your insurance company files with the state to prove you carry the required liability coverage. It is not a policy itself. It rides on top of one.

Usually the same day. We file it electronically with the state as soon as your policy starts.

Usually two to three years, depending on the state and what triggered the requirement. The clock generally restarts if you have a gap in insurance, so keeping the policy active matters.

A non-owner policy covers you when you drive someone else's car, and it satisfies the SR-22 requirement. It is often one of the most affordable ways to meet the filing.

Your insurance company is required to notify the state, which can suspend your license again and restart the requirement period. If money gets tight, call us before the policy cancels. There are usually options.

No. The filing requirement ends, and the events behind it age off your record. When that happens, you can ask us for a new quote.

The SR-22 filing fee is small and charged once. Most of the cost is the auto policy behind it, because the violation that led to the SR-22 also affects your rate. Your state, your record, your car and the coverage you choose all change the price, so two drivers in the same city can pay very different amounts. We shop. You choose. For an exact number, get a quote or call 1-800-921-AMAX.

Carry the coverage your state requires without extras you do not need. If you do not own a car, ask about a non-owner policy. A low down payment and a monthly plan spread out the cost. Most important: keep the policy active. If it cancels, your insurance company has to notify the state, which can suspend your license again and add reinstatement fees.

A-MAX has 240+ offices across Texas, California and Arizona where you can buy the policy and have the SR-22 filed in person, in English or Spanish. You can also start online or call 1-800-921-AMAX. Find the A-MAX office nearest you.

When your required period ends with no gaps in insurance, the filing stops and the requirement goes away. Confirm the exact end date with your state before you cancel or change anything, so you do not stop early by mistake. We can help you check the date and keep your regular policy in place afterward.
